I Tried Keto & Here’s What Happenedfeatured

Screen Shot 2020-01-27 at 10.45.16 PMA few years ago, I knew something had to change. I was feeling sluggish and always reached for carby snacks around 2 pm. New to office life, I knew if I continued this cycle I would be 300 pounds in no time. If you are 300 plus and love it, go you, but that’s just not for me.

Cue Keto.

I need to be very honest with you, I didn’t “do” Keto as prescribed. I have followed unhealthy diets in the past, so I simply decided to be “Keto-ish.” This isn’t really a thing, it’s just what I wanted to make a thing.

Anyway, I loaded up on good fats and let go of refined carbs altogether. This was a bit tough because I do love my pizza, but I decided it was time to try this Keto-ish thing to see if my body was receptive to it.

It definitely was.

I saw the pounds slip away like sand in an hourglass. Every time I lose a large amount of weight, I automatically feel more confident.

Call me vain, call me naive, call me a girl, whatever. I like to be lighter rather than heavier for my health and for the sake of body perception. I am 5’8″ and I have never been a size 0 nor will I ever be but I have worn tighter dresses.

I started wearing the tighter things in my closet (Oh YEA!). The biggest change I saw was my energy level. I started feeling energetic at around 2 pm and found myself reaching for hot tea instead of random office snacks. Life was just better! My brain and skin were clearer and my work reflected that. My coworkers noticed and that was just an added perk!

I was feeling really good.

Like most choices I make, this one was extreme but it felt pretty sustainable and the pounds just kept slipping away. Until they didn’t. 2 years into my Keto-ish lifestyle,  I started gaining back the pounds. Fast. It might have been stress but I couldn’t deny the fact that this was just not working for me anymore.

I was angry at first, I mean why was something that worked so well at first not working so well now?

Who knows.

It could have been hormonal changes as I approached 30. It could have been that I was overdoing it with the fats, remember, I was Keto-ish so I wasn’t actually weighing or measuring out anything. Not really Keto. But something had worked along the way.

Then my cholesterol rocketed. It was time to say goodbye to the high-fat low carb life. My weight never went back to pre-Keto life but I feel really healthy and happy right now. I replaced the high fat with leaner foods and still stay away from refined carbs like the plague. This is something I advocate you to try if you haven’t yet to see if your body simply hates refined carbs and sugar. My guess is that the answer is yes more often than not.

I decided to shift my mindset to focus more on effective workouts and things that can fuel them properly. High fats just weren’t for me. But refined carbs weren’t either. If it hadn’t been for this weak attempt at “Keto” I would have never really realized what makes my body work and not work properly.

I am sure if you do Keto right, you might have different results, but one thing’s for sure in my case: I need to be happy with my weight even on my worst days because my body is amazing and gets me through crazy high-intensity workouts and workdays. Not much hurts and I am stronger than I have ever been.

Should you try Keto? I don’t know. Should you test and see what makes your body work optimally? Definitely.

If you have tried Keto, let me know your experience by leaving me a comment at the bottom of this page.
