Why These Words Always Confuse Peoplefeatured

I was bred in a world of customer service. Not just any customer service, In N Out customer service, where the customer is always right even when they happen to be completely wrong.

It has not been easy for me to migrate into the corporate world. I often find myself wanting to make others smile because that is what I know best. And that is not necessarily a horrible thing to revert back to in this life.

I mean, customer service skills? Where did they go to die?

I often find myself frustrated with people who do not take pride in their work. Whether you work in the food business, the retail space, or Corporate America, customer service can be and should be applied at all times.

It goes without saying that the term customer service can drop the word customer and still be completely relevant.

Service. Acts of service and kindness are always welcomed, that’s for sure.

I used these words the other day and received confusion on the opposite end. I felt strange but after thinking about it I realize I welcome the strangeness. I recognize I come from a different school than most and that’s totally okay.

I said these words with great conviction. I try and choose my words carefully as I am a writer and respond best to words at all times.

Can you guess what these words were? I’ll save them for the end.

I said these words after a long workday to a coworker and I meant them on every level. I said them because I have deep gratitude for those who work so hard around me. I said them because they had to be said.

My coworker looked confused and responded, “For what?” Can you guess what words were said now?

Thank You.

I said thank you to someone after a long day. No, I am not their boss. No, they did not interact too much with me that day.

Maybe that’s why they were confused as to why I said these words to them.

I said it and I meant it because I am happy they showed up. I said it because I am grateful they worked so hard and overcame challenges throughout the day to make our business as successful as possible. I will continue to say thank you to those that give us the gift of their valuable time and efforts.

Whether I’m at work, home, gym, grocery store, I will continue to thank those that provide service to us. Because at the end of the day, you matter, you are valuable, you are enough.

Love Deeply and Forever,

Karen
